Waiting For The Rain

Those of us in the Chicago Area were so blessed over the weekend to have an outstanding taste of spring/summer weather.  If you were paying attention to the weather forecast, you know that rain was anticipated.  At times, the sky even looked menacing.  In the morning, we were not even sure we were going to go outside because we had household chores indoors and did not care to get wet.  As the sun was shining, we realized that rain would not come for a while.  We went outside and enjoyed a beautiful day.  The wind picked up in the late afternoon and we hunkered down waiting for that storm.  We waited, and waited....  and waited.  But what happened?  Not rain.  The night sky fell into place and still no rain.  It didn't rain until after midnight!

Now, applying this to our lives or even our business...  How many times do we sit around and "wait for the rain?"  We are in a recession and we curb our spending.  But we also curb our ambitions.  Why is it that, along with budget cuts, our wings are clipped, too?  Sure, these are turbulent times.  The winds are blowing and some things get strewn out of place, but that doesn't mean we should miss a wonderful sunny opportunity. What if we just spent all of our time inside waiting for the storm?  How many opportunities would we miss?  What part of your life are you "waiting" to pass so that you can go outside and enjoy the sunshine and impending warm weather?   There are a million and one reasons why NOT to do things and very few reasons TO do some things.  But, it is in those few moments that give way to sunny days and happy times.

Yes, rain comes.  We all have personal storms in our lives, but why make the storm last longer than it needs to? For those of you going through a personal storm right now, remember that thunder shakes the earth's surface encouraging new growth from the soil.  So too, in our times of trial, we grow.  Remember that even after the rain, the sun will reappear.  When it does, are you going to play or wait for the rain?
